After all, we write novels and watch movies with bravery laced throughout the entire plot. Some of us go as far as to make the characters our role models, they are Hollywood idols because they convey heroic attributes. These “heroic figures” can be found all over the internet, or T.V., showing off their physical courage. The characters they play single handedly defeat entire armies, slay hundreds of zombies protecting their loved ones, and race cars at irrationally fast speeds. His role was to train himself to become a hero, so that he could return to his home in the sky, Olympus. He went about his young adult life training his body and preparing himself to defeat monsters and beasts, in favor of common citizens. He spent years saving lives attempting to prove himself a hero, in hopes that he could return home. Ethical courage is the strength and conviction to act appropriately in questionable situations. A person can have a personal ethical understanding and be able to translate that understanding to business or other work-related settings but may not have the courage to take a stand when necessary. For example, in one of the major financial statement frauds where I was retained as an expert witness, more than twenty people helped falsify financial statements. All testified they were aware their actions were unethical, but none had the courage to stand for his or her beliefs. Ethical courage is difficult to teach because its roots are formed through years of learning to be courageous in small things.…

The tale of a hero is one of the most classic of stories, told in various forms throughout the ages. Every hero, classical and modern, has different strengths, weaknesses, and challenges that they demonstrate and face along the way, exhibiting traits that prove them a hero. While there is no doubt that the central figures of the Greek myths of Perseus, Hercules, and Atalanta are all heroes, Hercules, strong both in will and physically, stands as the best example of a classic hero. Heroes are not made without challenges, some of which they face early on in their journey. Hercules and Atalanta meet their first struggle as children, with the goddess Hera sending the former “two great snakes [that] came crawling into the nursery” (Hamilton 228), which Hercules promptly kills, and the latter being “left on a wild mountainside to die of cold and hunger” (Hamilton 246) by her father.…

As the ancient Greeks said, “Tell me who you admire and I’ll tell you who you are.” People are in need of heroes because they characterize our ideals: “Collectively and individually we continue to be a people in search of sages; anxious and eager to find people worthy of our love and loyalty” (Harper 1). The well-known interpretation of a hero is somebody who has unrealistic superpowers and super-strength.…
