In the Disney’s adaption, Zeus tells Hercules that in order to join the gods on Mount Olympics that he needs to show prove that he is a true hero, and this leads him to look for a trainer who will help him rescue people being attack. Hercules continues to rescue people that lead to him to be famous and wealth. Hercules becomes frustrated, because Zeus tells him that he has not shown that he is a true hero. In the end, Hercules demonstrates that he is a real hero, because he sacrificed himself to save Megara in the underworld. Brett Ratner’s Hercules was based on the adventures of the Greek demigod, Hercules (Dwayne Johnson). According to the film, Hercules was born on a stormy night to the almighty Zeus, a god, and human mother. At this point of his life, Hercules had already completed his legendary twelve labors that followed as a punishment for murdering his own family. Unable to deal with such emotional trauma that resulted from the death of his family, Hercules resorted “to seeking employment as a mercenary”(Gustafson). In “The Odyssey”, Odysseus’s hubris is an advantage because it tricks individuals into viewing the almighty epic hero as more of an iconic and courageous figure. When Odysseus and his crew, cleverly fight off and get past the horrendous cyclops Polyphemus, Odysseus bravely taunts the beast to make sure he knows never to attack him or his crew again. In fury, Polyphemus pounds out to Odysseus’s boat, forcing Odysseus to get the “longest boat hook out” and begin “fending off” his crew (95-96). This act of fearlessness shows Odysseus’s crew that he’s willing to protect them for the future, even if that means sacrificing his own safety. Any other person would’ve taken that get out of jail free card, and quickly got off the island, waiting like bait for Polyphemus to strike again.…

Hades has tried to kill hercules ever since Hercules was a baby. One way Hades tried to kill him was when he sent two of his workers to steal and kill Hercules when he was a baby. Hercules was to drink a potion that was to kill him, lucky two civilians showed up and saved him. These civilians are the ones who Hercules thought were his parents his whole life. For my first journal, I choose “Hercules Upholding the Heavens” by artist Paul Manship. It is located in the sculpture courts in the fine arts museum of Houston. What initially attracted me to this piece of art was the sense of power it radiated.
