Hercules is the son of God Zeus and the mortal woman Alcmene. Zeus got Alcmene pregnant while her husband, Amphitryon was away. Hera, who is Zeus's wife was infuriated by this and tried to make if that the baby wasn't born. Alcmene gave birth to the baby and named him Herakles (Romans pronounced Hercules). Hercules means "glorious gift to Hera" in Greek. This angered Hera even more. She sent down snakes down on Hercules to kill him as a baby. Hercules was strong and strangled the snakes, one in each hand.
Hercules married Megara and had two kids with her. Hercules went mad for a moment and killed Megara and his kids, because Hera sent a fit of madness on him. Hercules went to the God Apollo and asked him to get rid of the evil that was upon him. Apollo said Hercules had to complete ten heroic labors to be rid of the evil.
