Herakles Vs Powerpoint

Improved Essays
When I looked at the images on the PowerPoint I decided it would be wise to look closely and mentally take notes of who was in each picture and what each character was doing. I found it either easy or hard to find the pictures that closely represented the ones on the PowerPoint when comparing them to the PDF version. Hopefully, my knowledge of Herakles will help and educate me more about the pictures and the relationships each character has. For the first image, I had a hard time deciding what was happening in this picture. After looking closely to each picture that included a bird, I decided to select one hundred and ninety-one as the image that represented this picture. In the first image you can see a small bird flying behind Herakles, …show more content…
It is seen in both images that Herakles is fighting the Hydra with his big sword in his hands and Athena is standing next and/or behind him. The difference between the two pictures was Athena is standing on a Chariot on the PDF, but seen standing on “ground” in the PowerPoint picture. Image three was located on page one hundred and thirty-seven on the PDF file; there was no number for the picture. It can be seen in the third row, first one on the left. I believe the picture is Theseus hiding in a storage jar and Herakles brings him a kind gesture, which is a boar. The image on the PowerPoint shows another person, whom looks like a woman, but her face is cut off, making it hard to identify the character properly. I would assume that the woman might be Athena because she seems to be the one who is always looking at for Herakles, making sure he is protected. The fourth image I found very interesting because it appears to me that Herakles might not be in this picture. I had a hard time trying to compare the picture to the Art and Myth pictures, but it is closest to pictures one hundred and eighty-six and eighty-seven. Pholos, who was one of the centaurs, had to entertain Herakles as he was on his journey to find the boar. In the pictures on the PDF, Pholos name is just mentioned as he watches Herakles draw his arrow. There isn’t a specific picture that shows four …show more content…
This image relates to number two hundred and seventeen on the Art and Myth PDF. Herakles is carrying them around on his shoulders because they have stolen his weapons and won’t return them. Rumor also says they are laughing at his hairy behind. Looking at image seven it closely represents picture one hundred and seventy-seven on the PDF. On the PowerPoint Athena, who is on the far left, is holding her spear. Iolaos is seen in the middle, holding his bow and Herakles is on the far right getting ready to fight/defend himself from the animal. The difference between the PowerPoint and the PDF is the animal on the PDF was Herakles was fighting a lion. When looking at image eight on the PowerPoint, I thought the animal they are slaughtering looked like a deer, so, personally it made me think it represented number one-hundred and eighty-one on the PDF. In the PowerPoint Artemis is holding the bow (to the far right), Athena in the middle of the picture, but it doesn’t look like she is holding a sword and Herakles, to the far left, killing the deer. It is slightly different than the picture on the PDF, just the arrangements of where everyone is standing and how the deer is

Hygieia, is designed with a marble exterior, making the statue seem as it is of Greek origin however this statue has an origin dating back to Roman times, during 200-250 A.D. Hygieia is the daughter of Asklepios, the god of medicine; a personification of good health, she was typically portrayed feeding a coiled snake, a reference to the serpent-entwined rod wielded by her father that later came to symbolize the healing arts. Her cultural image often merged with other deities, such as Aphrodite the goddess of love. One of the many merged qualities that Hygieia shares is her knotted bow hairstyle. At Hygieia’s side, the sleeping figure of Eros alludes to the healing ritual of sleeping in the sanctuary of Asklepios. Her precise identity is uncertain because the figure displays elements connected with more than one deity.…

This two-handled jar displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston is a very typical Geometric Greek amphora. According to the information of the artwork on the Museum website, this ceramic vessel painted by the Birdseed Painter was made around ca. 735-720 BCE, which is in the late Geometric period, and it was found in Athens, Greece. While there is no particular subject to it, this vessel is covered by geometric patterns in most of the area, and there are two bands of repetitive animal figures painted among them. The painter used the black-figure technique to paint the jar, which was typical at the time.…

On “Hercules Delivering Prometheus” and its Frame Constraints Many artworks are confined to a frame that limits the viewers’ eye or allows for their interpretation beyond its boundaries. The audience is either forced to analyze the present material or search outside for another meaning. Lespingola’s “Hercules Delivering Prometheus” embodies an abundance of intensity and dynamism that threatens to overcome its constraints, and envelops the viewer in its power. Hence, the bronze statue breaks its figurative frame.…

The sculpture Triad of King Mycerinus and Two Goddesses, which resides at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, was excavated from The Temple of Mycerinus in Giza and was created between 2548 - 2530 BCE, during the reign of Mycerinus. Made from greywacke, an incredibly coarse, dark sandstone, this sculpture uses variation in texture, incorrect scale, and line to draw attention to King Mycerinus in relation to the two divinities, and thus is an example of royalty as divinity. Overall, this sculpture depicts the goddess of the Hare Nome, the goddess Hathor, and the King Mycerinus (in that order from left to right), all carved from a single block of greywacke. Additionally, this is an example of a high relief sculpture, meaning that the sculpture is…

In this essay I will compare and contrast using contextual factors two murals. The first is Emperor Justinian, Bishop Maximus and Attendants, a mosaic on the wall of the Sanctuary in Italy from the Byzantine era. The second being Raphael 's School of Athens, found on the wall of the Apostolic Palace, Rome painted during the Renaissance. Emperor Justinian, Bishop Maximianus and Attendants, was created for religious purposes, as was a lot of the art produced during the early Byzantine Empire. In 324 CE Constantine ‘ the Great’ was a Christian emperor who set up Constantinople, originally Byzantine, a city in the east as another city to rule Christianity from, alongside the capital Rome.…
