Ancient Greeks worshiped many gods and goddesses. Myths are like stories that teach lessons or tell how things came to be. The Greeks worshiped gods and goddesses such as Hera. Hera is the goddess of women, marriage, childbirth, and family. Her Roman name is Juno, all gods and goddesses had Roman names and some planets were named after them. She was born, lives, and usually found on Mount Olympus. Hera had a very large family, her parents were Cronus and Rhea. Cronus was the god of time and Rhea was the goddess of Earth. Hera and all her brothers and sisters except Zeus were swallowed by their father Cronus. This was because Cronus overthrew his father and was afraid his children would do the same. Later on, Hera got married to Zeus and changed her from the goddess of virgins to the to the goddess of marriage. What Hera did not know at the time was that Zeus only married her for her powers and would go out with other women to have children with them. Hera soon became wrathful of Zeus and his many lovers, so Hera would always do mean things to these other children of Zeus. Hera had many children alone but Zeus has about twenty-two kids that he had with other women.

A way people celebrate the goddess Hera is they created a day for people to play sports and games. On this day many different outdoor sports are played. All these sports are played by women to represent Hera the goddess of women. Most of these games are played outside because Hera was the strongest goddess and was stronger than most of the gods too. The lady’s kid runs home in fear and the house was protected by Zeus making sure nothing would hurt his son. The mother used to look into his window at night and see him sleep while her son would sometimes tell his father that he’d see a bear looking through his window.
