Hephaestus: A Short Story

It was around eleven-fifteen in the morning. Hephaestus, the god of work and blacksmithing, was fixing a large brass trombone in the band and chorus room. He sat in the far corner at a large wooden desk. He was hard at work that evidently he didn't notice when Peter, the head of a popular group of centaurs, swaggered into the room. After a few moments Peter slammed his left hand on Hephaestus’s table, Hephaestus slowly looked up from his mallet and trombone rolled his eyes and looked back down at his project. Peter slightly annoyed pointed his index finger at Hephaestus and mumbled forcefully “You dare roll your eyes at me, you putrid cripple!” Peter’s words were slurred for in his right hand he held a gallon jug filled with wine. This seemed to slightly amuse Hestia while she watched the spectacle playing in front of her. Peter giving up on the idea decided it might be better to just stand next to Hestia. It took a minute but Peter finally found some words in his mushy brain and purred to Hestia and talked “What brings you to Mr.Lolny headquarters?” he then contorted his features into a nasty grin. Hestia took this horrible attempt at flirting in stride and responded: “I need something to be fixed and I was told this is where you would find Hephaestus at this hour.” her voice gave Peter and Hephaestus a weird sense of calm like they were at home. This seemed to perk Hephaestus up and answered: “What do you need fixed? Hestia responded by bringing a crushed silver flute out staring at it sadly, she got up and brought it to Hephaestus’s table for him to inspect. Peter was jealous at the attention Hestia was giving Hephaestus he got up and started to walk over taking yet another drink from the wine filled jug,
