Hepatitis B is diagnosed through evaluations of blood tests. Those test are hepatitis B virus blood tests, known as hepatitis markers or serologies. The Hepatitis B serologic test identifies certain antigens and antibodies. The 3 common antigens are the surface antigen (HBsAg), the core antigen (HBcAg) and the e antigen (HBeAg).
These markers can confirm the infection and also help determine whether the virus is acute or chronic.
