Hepatitis B (HBV) has an incubation period of 6-26 weeks and symptoms of an acute infection may include anorexia, nausea, fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, joint pain, jaundice, urticaria, polyarthralgia’s and arthritis however some people may have no symptoms (6). Tim is reporting weight loss, fatigue and a skin rash which could indicate HBV infection. Serology testing is needed to diagnose acute or chronic HBV infection with the positive identification of the IgM antibody to hepatitis B antigen (IgM anti-HBc) confirming current infection (2,6).
