The National Viral Hepatitis Action Plan goal that I choose is: Reduce deaths and improve the health of people living with viral hepatitis. The action plan identifies some of the challenges such as limited data, low provider awareness, little public awareness and perceived risk, the limited public health and health system response, the high cost of treatment, and stigma and discrimination (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2017). Hepatitis is easily transmitted and causes high morbidity and prolonged loss of time from school or employment (Hinkle & Cheever, 2014, p. 1358). Acute viral hepatitis affects 0.5% to 1% of people in the United States each year (Hinkle & Cheever, 2014, 1358).
