SIKH CULTUREWhile caring for a patient in the hospital, one very important thing that a nurse needs to be is culturally competent. In caring for someone from the Sikh community the nurse must respect privacy, the fact that the patient may want to stay as covered up as possible, allowing ample time for prayer, trying to plan out the patient care around prayer times, avoid any unnecessary touching, respecting personal space, be knowledgeable of the Sikh’s five K’s as mentioned earlier in the paper, if it isn’t needed don’t make them remove their headdress, if you have to treat it with respect and the patient may want something else to cover hair such as a surgical bonnet, try to have someone of the safe sex care for the patient if possible, …show more content…
Typhoid fever affects about six million people with more than 600,000 deaths a year. Hepatitis is the inflammation of liver that can be caused by viruses, bacterial infections, or continuous exposure to alcohol, drugs, or toxic chemicals. There are five types of hepatitis A, which is transmitted through contaminated water, B, the main mode of spread is intimate contact and from mother to the new born, C, is a viral disease commonly occurring after transfusion or IV drug abuse, D, which with or as a super infection with B, and E,transmitted oral fecal route usually by contaminated water. Leptospirosis is a disease that is given to humans by animals, most commonly rats. Infection is commonly acquired by bathing in contaminated water, but can also be from drinking contaminated water. Cholera is an acute diarrheal disease, which has a high potential to spread fast and cause deaths. Hookworm infection that may occur in a single or mixed infection in the same person through various factors, which have to be prevented, this is widely prevalent in India. Influenza is an acute respiratory tract infection, in India alone, over six million people die due to this pandemic. Filariasis is a major public health problem in India. There are an estimated six million attacks of acute filarial disease per year, and at least 45 million persons currently have one or more chronic filarial lesions, it is transmitted through person to person or through an infected mosquitoFinally, tuberculosis is India’s biggest public health problem.
