Cancer is one of the biggest causes of death all over the world. It kills people all over the globe and continues to be one of challenges humans face on daily basis. With over a hundred different kinds of cancers, there is still much to be learned about. What is cancer? Cancer is the growth of cells at an abnormal rate in a particular area of the body. Although no cure has been found, treatment for cancer is always evolving as medicine continues to advance. Primary liver cancer also known as hepatocellular carcinoma could arise from birth defects or the excessive consumption of alcohol which ultimately destroys the liver. The other causes would be from the hepatitis diseases which over time will turn into hepatic cancer if left untreated. The average of is age of those infected by hepatic cancer is 67 years old (Web MD). The liver is made up of different kinds of cells and because of that there are different kinds of cancer cells. There are benign cells which are not cancerous and then there are the cancerous cells. The cancerous cells can also spread to different parts of the body and not only destroy to liver but even the surrounding organs within the body. As with every other cancer, hepatic cancer has stages as it progresses. There are 3 stages of liver cancer. Stage one includes a single tumor which has not spread into the bloodstream yet. Stage 2 is if there is a single tumor which has spread into the blood stream or multiple tumors are involved. Stage 3 is if there are multiple tumors which have spread in the blood stream. Symptoms of liver cancer include yellow skin, nausea, and loss of appetite.
