Description: Henry lives a life of slavery, always dreaming about freedom. He actually has somewhat of a life at one point, but that is striped away again when his family is sold back into slavery. Henry makes an attempt at freedom by mailing himself to safety. His strength and determination is apparent throughout.
My Impression: This is such a touching book. I love that this is a true story, what an inspiration! Henry’s Freedom Box enlightens children on the pain and suffering that African American slaves have endured. Reading this book will allow them to grow in cultural diversity.
Target Audience: This book would be suitable for children 4-8 years old due to its reading level.
