Cameron Saulnier - Henry V Essay 2/14/24-2/29/24 There are key moments and life lessons that make an impact in every documented figure's life. These moments can take place during their youth or at the start of their maturity. This is precisely true for Henry V, the King of England. Henry was a soldier from a very young age, had a good education and a lot of training. “He was schooled in riding, hunting, and playing the harp, as well as Latin, French, and English.” (“Henry V” 1) These studies helped prepare Henry V to be king and lead his army into battle. At 16, he commanded part of his father's army in the battle of Shrewsbury. Henry was struck in the face by an arrow during this battle.” (Henry V'' 2) This event taught Henry true pain and would prove to be a large part of Henry’s life and time as king. “In April 1415, Henry and his army crossed the English channel and invaded France. The English won their first battles and began a thousand-mile march to Calais.” (Henry V. 6). When Henry V's great-grandfather couldn't inherit the throne, it sparked these battles as the start of another chapter in one of the bloodiest and most deadly war paths in history: the ”Hundred Years war”. The result of this chapter in the hundred year war was Henry V reasserting the claim of his great-grandfather Edward III. The life experiences of King Henry V helped prepare him for when he led his army into battle and helped pave the way toward his reign as king. While Henry was taught the same as many kings, it was the unique combination of life experiences that aided him in becoming the remarkable historical figure he is today.
