Sir Henry Parkes was born on the 27th of May 1815 in England, he was a politician and journalist. When Henry Parkes was 22 he set up his own business which failed a year later, he and his wife Clarinda moved to London.

Henry Parkes and his family arrived in Australia in 1839 and Henry works and a labourer then in a brass foundry. After some other jobs that failed, Parkes was again facing financial difficulties. But, he was showing some talent as a writer and organiser and attended literacy and political activities. He set up the newspaper ‘The Empire.’

Parkes was a great supporter of universal suffrage and was elected in the NSW legislative council in 1854. Then in 1866 Parkes became a minister in the government of James Martin, and then
