Fear is familiar in different ways. Henry Louis Mencken says there are different types of fear, one of them is the fear of the unknown. The fear of the unknown is when a child is alone in a dark room, and suddenly he hears this scratching noise. His heart starts to beat faster, and he is too afraid to look over the blanket. He does not know what is happening around him. He shuts his eyes close hoping that he can forget the noise and go to sleep, but he can't because it is only in his mind. Like when a student fails so much class that he becomes discouraged. A student would give up and either withdrawn or start to have behavior problems. The student would try to cover the fear he has when he goes to class by exhibiting bad behavior. In his or her mind, bad behavior would show that he has no fear of failing or being there. A student wouldn't pay attention in class because he might think that it is not worth it to try to pass the class and ends up failing. These kind of conditions can hurt students psychologically and physically. Students can go through psychological effects such as loss of confidence, excessive worrying, and low self-esteem.
