About Henry Giroux: Henry Giroux is a well known critical pedagogy scholar, in 2014 he was the holder of the McMaster University Chair for Scholarship in the Public Interest in the English and Cultural Studies Department. Giroux was born on the 18th of September in 1943 and received his doctorate degree from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1977. He is widely known for writing and researching about pedagogy, youth studies, media studies, critical theory, cultural studies, and higher education. Henry Giroux is highly known for his educational theory. He has published 400 articles and more than 60 books; they were all published worldwide. Giroux is saying that educators will become more critical in pedagogies and have different visions in their purposes (mingoinfo.edu). The GEM interview Giroux was asked about what he meant about teachers be “deskilled” his reply was not shocking to say the least. He replied with by saying that the government and school board focus on standardized tests for means of measuring intelligence of students and that not much more is happening to help increase the student’s knowledge; “Reducing pedagogy to the teaching of methods and data-driven performance indicators that allegedly measure scholastic ability and improve student achievement is nothing short of scandalous.” (Global Education Magazine). Henry is stating that using standardized tests is blaming inequalities on students with low test scores and that is the wrong path to continue to …show more content…
He believes that continuing to question knowledge and how we can obtain such knowledge into a deeper level is very important and he stresses this point in many of his articles and books. Educators should provide a variety of learning opportunities, by doing so this will help extend the knowledge of students and they will have a greater and deeper understanding of the topics being taught in the classroom. By ridding of standardized testing, students will be able to prosper and learn better in different ways that will help their intellectual level.
