Throughout the twentieth century, two Mechanical Engineers that played an enormous roll in transforming the automotive industry were Henry Ford and Kelly Black. Analogous of Mechanical Engineers, Ford (disliked, multidimensional) and Black (well loved, one-dimensional) were both creative, persistent entrepreneurs lured to a career as Mechanical Engineers mainly due to their desire to understand how things worked, their obsession on improving their product designs, and their ability to communicate and listen to their customers while providing quality goods to their customer at a fair price. Instead of remaining on the family farm, Ford’s imagination attracted him to mechanics, machinery, and the overall understanding of how things worked. Black’s business attitude is that is the customer does well then the business does well (Britt, Neil and Martin, Chris, Keith Black Drag Racing-Class of 1995). “His relentless desire obsession to improve existing designs was evident throughout his career” (The Legacy of Keith Black) Black desired to produce the best most efficient racing engine possible. “His real contribution to the sport was selling good parts at a fair price” (The Legacy of Keith Black). He listened to his customer to adopt his business strategy to do what is necessary for the customer to do well.
His ability to take advice from others was his strongest personality trait. He believed what others said if they were the experts in their field and it made logical sense to him (Britt, Neil and Martin, Chris, Keith Black Drag Racing-Class of 1995). Like Ford, he is so successful with racing automotive parts that his name and initials are a part of the racing
