Henri Poincaré’s valuable ideas were documented in the many books and papers he published on mathematics. Although he never published an autobiography, several biographies have been written about him. Henri Poincaré worked with literature in such a way that the average could easily connect with his ideas. In his lifetime, Poincaré published more than twenty-five volumes of writings (Henri Poincare : Biography 10). Many of his works were constructed originally as smaller articles which were collected into one anthology and then transitioned into a book.In addition, some of his work was written so as to be part of a set, such as the Cours de Physique Mathematique, which was a collection of twelve books dealing with the same subject. Although Poincaré’s technical works contributed a great deal of valuable information, Poincaré as an author was not known for his contributions in that field. Instead, Poincaré gained his fame from the papers he published in popular philosophy and science journals (Mawhin 6). The papers published in popular philosophy and science journals mainly dealt with how logic should be applied in mathematics, what the foundations of certain branches of math were, and the newest advancements in the field of physics …show more content…
Because of the variety of mathematical activities Poincaré employed, many of his creations have contributed central works in “almost all spheres of mathematics.” Some of the mathematical ideas Poincaré took so far as to publish dealt with, “topology, automorphic functions, theory of differential equations, integral equations, non-Euclidean geometry, and the relative theory, the theory of numbers, celestial mechanics, physics, and philosophy of mathematics and philosophy of science,” (Henri Poincare : Biography 3). His works were published in eleven volumes, and give a representation of why he was known as a
