Hemophilia Personal Statement

After graduating high school this spring, I plan on expanding my knowledge by attending The Ohio State University in the fall. I will be majoring in biology as I have a true interest in science. Growing up with Hemophilia A, I have always been inspired to go into the medical field. As a child, I took frequent trips to the hospital and was constantly around medicine because of my Hemophilia. During those appointments, I have had multiple conversations with my hematologist talking about his profession and careers similar to his career. These talks usually included what it takes to become a doctor, schooling, what to expect, daily life on the job, and most importantly - the desire to help people. As a result, I realized the medical field was perfect for me. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I intend on going to medical school. The entire plan seems like a tremendous amount of education, but I believe that it will all be worth it in the end. As one of the fastest kids on the soccer field, my motivation to succeed in life started with my childhood passions. Playing sports allowed me to not only stay in shape, but also to become a leader as I was captain of the high school soccer team. Of course, playing these activities came with safety measures, as infusing with factor was part of my routine that allowed me to compete and lead on the field. Soccer has been a fundamental component of my life from age four and continuing up to my senior year on the high school varsity team. Although my bleeding disorder has stopped me at times from what I love to do, it has also has given me the drive to prove to myself that I don’t let Hemophilia define me, but rather inspire me to achieve goals outside of athletics,
