Interview of a Helping Professional
In order to broaden my knowledge of the helping profession, I chose to interview Tiffany Tritch, Manager of Housing and Financial Stability Programs at The Up Center formerly known as Child and Family Services of Eastern Virginia. The Up Center has been up and running for over a century touching the lives of tens of thousands. Located at 222 W 19th Street Norfolk, VA 23517
puts this office a little close to home. While the Up Center deals with several different areas of expertise Tiffany’s main focus is to help individuals learn to budget or deal with serious threats such as foreclosure. She also is available

They often relinquish that they’ve heard of the Center through Word of mouth, referrals, and in to many cases through court ordered. When someone initially contact the agency as a whole, the front desk asks for what services they are seeking and sends them to that department to speak with someone who can assist further. In Tiffany’s department when they get a call form someone they screen them for what services they are looking for, what their current goals or needs are and prepare a triage form to see how soon an appointment is needed. If someone is facing foreclosure in the coming week or so they make an immediate appointment to try and stop the foreclosure while they work with their loan officer. According to Tiffany payment of services are on a sliding scale and some depend on insurance if they are not already free. The department of Housing and Financial Stability session with clientele can take anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on the reason they are coming in and the …show more content…
Mentor individuals into finding answers and teaching them to better manage their finances. However that is not the case, tiffany does much more than advise she helps hundreds make their dreams come true. She first teaches them to budget but then proceeds to helping them create a better life for themselves and their families. She walks them through the necessary steps and does whatever she can to find her clients a “dream house” or a way out of bankruptcy and even foreclosures in some cases. I also never knew that even after the client chooses not to follow up with The Up Center how much effort they still put into reach out to them. After talking to Tiffany and hearing her sincerity and how much she truly cares about her job it only once again reminded me how much I want that in my future. I am currently perusing a degree in business management and although I like to be in charge I have no interest in what I’ve been studying. I feel the opposite with this class and have considered changing my major. My interview with Tiffany was just the cherry on top although I don’t think I’m changing my major I now plan to minor in human services. Tiffany also told me that human services personnel are always needed and that is the main reason I picked business management in the first place. I’ve heard to many stories of individuals going to school only to have not a single

When we inquired about the local community, Katie explained that although the city of Signal Hill has come a long way, the neighborhood continues to struggle with chronic homelessness and violence; sharing that a few weeks earlier, a shooting took place only a few blocks away. Throughout the interview, Katie endorsed that the local government is of great service to the community and there are plenty of amenities that the city offers to its struggling residents. I am a non-practicing religious, more spiritual, person. I decided for my service learning project to interview someone who is practicing from the same religious background that I came from. Even though I grew up taught religion by my Catholic mother, I was never truly practicing. Even with this I found many similarities to a practicing Christian. I chose to interview because I was curious about how my non-practicing views meshed with someone from the same religion who is much more read in it.…

I credit the development of my personal values to my caring family and Cuban culture. My family was blessed with earning entrance into America through the Diversity Visa lottery in 1998. My father was a factory worker in the countryside when he began his personal rebellion against communism. He spent a year's gathering materials and hand building a house for him and my mother to move into, postponing their marriage until the project was finished, just to have it taken away by the regime. Emigrating to the U.S. was overall a difficult operation, especially as a first generation from my family to do so.…

One important issue that I am interested in is alleviating homelessness within New York City. During my final years as an undergraduate I was introduced to urban studies issues within the classroom context. I was educated about the criminalization of the poor, amongst various topics exploring various degrees of political philosophy addressing reasons for poverty. Given my interest in housing issues in NYC, I was interested in understanding further sub issues within the topic of Housing. These courses began to make sense of what I have seen within my communities, but could not explain.…

Our nation has been facing a silent housing crisis that worsens each year. Nearly, 20 million lower-income households spend more than fifty percent of their monthly income on housing. Another 20 million low-income families also lack access to transit, good schools, and jobs, or are living in concentrated poverty. These households are faced with a significant stress that is induced by applying limited funds to competing demands. Often due to the extreme cost of daily living, families prioritize their resources to the most basic needs such as obtaining food and housing rather than attending to health care needs.…

Leadership Interview I recently had the opportunity of interviewing Mr. Maity who has more than ten years of experience in leadership positions within his organization. He started his career after grad school with a small non-profit research organization. His leadership abilities were quickly realized and he became a part of a large company as a Project Manager. He recalls that in his first job, the small size of the company and the nature of operations meant that soon after joining the firm, he started taking up multiple responsibilities with many being outside of his core functional role. This valuable learning experience has allowed him to excel in his current leadership position.…

When interviewing for a job opportunity, many individuals experience anxiety and stress during the process. From personal experience, I can admit that I do not retain the greatest interview skills - I shake uncontrollably, I demonstrate high anxiety levels, and I find it challenging to think on the spot. For me, the questions, themselves, do not represent the stressor, but rather, the stress comes from knowing that the individual in front of me retains the ability to control my future career. Interviews exemplify an all-or-nothing situation - you either get the job or you do not. This past week, I participated in a mock interview role-play in class, which permitted me to evaluate and test my interview skills with peers.…
