I volunteered to help homeless people around Dallas Terrell. I volunteered because I had a bed and dry clothes, So I was helping the people who didn’t. We had this bag of stuff like toothpaste toothbrush water mouthwash and a bunch of other stuff that would help them. We saw this one man and gave him pizza and water. Helping the homeless was fun because, Some of the people told us there story about hoe they ended up on the streets of Dallas and Terrell. It was fun listening to their stories. Some of the people were friendly and some wanted nothing to do with us, like they didn’t want our help

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

Mark Twain once said “the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why” (Twain, ND). I found out why when I was 19, pregnant and homeless living on the streets of New York City. I knew I had a purposed and that there had to be something more to life than the cards I was given. I believe change starts with one and that is why I decided that it will be my life’s mission to help end homelessness and be a service to other people.…

Hiss states that Grand Central is ever-changing: These days, though, there are much sadder sights in the concourse than there used to be: In the mid-1980s, Grand Central became a principal hangout for large numbers of homeless people, as well as for some of those who prey on the homeless. The various means of population displacement are as a result of economic, social, or political factors. Society and culture generally demand a hierarchy, a likely result of our animalistic origins of predator and prey. Though we humans like to think of ourselves as civilized beings, there is always a patronizing quality to some behaviors.…

I would try to get other job chains, such as local groceries shopping centers, and even fast food chains to join the group to help get homeless people jobs. Helping the homeless get a job is the first step towards the right direction of getting them back on their feet. I could also get other organizations to sponsor certain homeless people to help also such an area transportation to give them free access that way they could have a reliable way back and forth to work. Also giving them, a computer system could help increase their technological advances. I would adopt it because it could show the homeless people that the center has helped, while also showing the ones that could use a good amount of help.…

Ending homelessness means doing things differently, and not simply managing the problem through depending on emergency services and supports such as shelters and soup kitchens. Ending homelessness is not spending over $200,000 on emergency services and investing over hundreds of millions of dollars every year towards a plan that clearly is not working. Having people depend on emergency services without access to permanent housing and necessary supports, leads to declining health and well-being, and most certainly an uncertain future.…

Well, not counting the community service I had to do in high school. With that said, I thought the work here would be a little intimidating. I think that some homeless people are hopeless - drunks, druggies, and people who have completely given up on any quality of life and stay homeless. But there are others who just had a bad turn in life—and are desperately trying to get back to a normal life. I think that homeless communities would be a good idea—especially ones that work to enforce abstaining from alcohol and put people on the right path. Survival is much easier if you have people on your side, and misery loves company.…
