Helping Children Play Creatively Analysis

In my opinion both articles "Helping children play creatively" and "The benefits of organized activities" have informtion i agree and disagree with. In "Helping children play creatively" it states "Today the lives of many children are overfilled with structured activity." I agree with this statement because children never seem to have enough time to themselves. Children go to school, play sports, do homework, etc. A child needs freedom to do the things they are interested in. Sometimes they dont end up with enough time to do anything else. In elementary school we were encouraged to be creative but once middle school and high school came alone we were taught to do things a specific way. Each person learns in a different way. I am a hands on learner. I …show more content…
I was so overwhelmed. After school we had to do sports. We couldnt take breaks and we had to practice for hours. When I got home it was too dark outside to do anything. I ate dinner and had no time to watch television. I went to sleep then woke up to the same routine each day. We were also given homework on weekends and vacations. I never really had time to spend with my parents. We used to watch shows and spend a lot of time as a family but now i barely ever see them. They work a lot and i am so busy with school. When we see eachother now we only talk about how busy and stressed out we are. The more you force a child into something the quicker they will lose interest. I feel some organized activities are okay. If the child wants to do the organzied activity then it should be an option but not forced upon them. Just make sure the child has time be be creative. In "The benefits of organized activities" it states "Children also develop a strong sense of identity and pride." It also states "Such experiences give children confidence as they mature." I believe if it is the childs choice to be in that activety then they should be able to gain confidence and pride quite

Child-initiated activity hands practitioners a very powerful opportunity for learning. To make the most of this, as a practitioner you must: * maintain children's focus - actively using a range of strategies to keep the children engaged and extend their learning - introducing new words, thinking out loud, introducing more complex speech, bringing in new problems, encouraging conflict negotiation, demonstrating or explaining new ways of working towards a solution * offer assistance and support, when needed, so children are successful in following their ideas, even something simple like holding an object while a child works * ensure the learning environment offers a wide range of stimulating open-ended materials, both outdoors and indoors, for…

A Fabulous Child’s Story is about a child named X who is born for an experiment. The experiment is for two parents to raise a child where no one including the child knew whether it was a boy or girl; the cost of raising baby X was 23 billion dollars and 72 cents. The reason this experiment was done was to show whether or not male and female characteristics are developed genetically or external; nature or nurture. Baby X was raised as a happy and healthy child who was allowed to do everything that both boys and girls do. It didn’t matter whether if boys were suppose to play football or girls were only suppose to bake cakes, X was raised to know no differences and did…

If there were rules where every child must get to take part in the game, then everyone would enjoy it more and less kids would quit. Jessica Statsky’s essay Children Need to Play Not Compete,” is about how damaging sports can be on children (152-157). In her essay, she cites research that explains one of “the most common reasons children give for quitting, aside from lack of interest is the lack of playing time” (154, par. 6). When a kid does not play in any games they will feel like they are not needed or wanted on the team and they will quit. Statsky implies that children who stand out for their athletic ability are selected to get the most playing time while the others who still might be “on the verge of developing the necessary strength…

From my current placement I have experience of working with a child going through this transition, this had a very big effect on the child holistically. It became obvious to me that the child was very worried and unsettled about this transition as we noticed a negative change in the child's behaviour as he started becoming aggressive to other children and started a tendency to play alone and withdraw himself from the class. There was also a significant decrease in his school work performance as he was very withdrawn and found it difficult to communicate with the other children and sometimes staff. Working within the multi-agency team we introduced this child to an advocate which acted as a professional friend and from this we saw a slight improvement in the child's holistic development and behaviour. When working within the school team, we were part of the multi-agency team who contributed to…

Why You Should Read To Your Children I have a four year old son, and I read to him every single night. I believe that reading to him encourages his imagination, literary skills and helps us to build a bond. When I read to my son I can the little wheels in his head turning. He asks questions, and tells me what about the story that he thinks is interesting and what he would change. Often times when we are playing together he will bring something I read to him from a story into his imaginative play time.…

There are some benefits of using unstructured play which is that it can allow children and young people use their imagination, creativity and decision making. The child would develop these skills through play. Using unstructured play can help children to learn at their own pace and they get to choose what they want to play with. Also, it will help children to use something that interest them and they can set their own challenges through play. Encouragement from supporting grown-ups, for example, caregivers and teachers have a positive impact on a child’s creativity. Bruce (2011) states that, “when adults observe, support and extend children’s learning through well-planned play, they are teaching” (pg.72). This means making sure children are provided with everything they need for creative play. Providing children space to play is one of the ways adults can help promote play. This space should be a safe environment where the child feels physically and emotionally safe, which helps support their overall learning and wellbeing.…
