Victor explains how demotivated he was, how life has frustrated him leaving him as a hapless kid who was already beginning to believe in what fate would bring his way (Victor Rios: Help for Kids the Education System Ignores | TED Talk | TED.com). He would accompany his uncle to collects bottles which they would sell and when he felt he could no long continue doing it; his uncle encouraged him that they were building something out of nothing. His frustrations in life saw him undergo some probation programs. His best friend, who I assume is also a black American, is shot dead. Sometime later, his uncle got killed on the streets where he bleeds to death with no ambulance to aid to his help (Victor Rios: Help for Kids the Education System Ignores | TED Talk | TED.com). However, his life is revived when he meets with a teacher called Mrs. Russ who seems to understand what kids go through and especially those from the minority groups. According to research by the Unites States Education Department, most schools in the country have cases of racial discrimination practiced by the school against the students from the minority groups (Resmovits, par.1). The surveys found out that at average, the African-American students were expelled from school three times more that the white students were expelled (Resmovits, par.2). This apparently concurs with what the speaker of the Tedtalk was explaining. The black students are also denied chances to get help from veteran teachers, unlike their fellow white students. With these forms of discrimination on the black students, it is expected that they will perform poorly in class which leads to many cases of school dropouts (Quinlan, par.5). Apparently, we all agree that this is not fair to the black student and it is the obligation of the education system and the society to ensure that such black kids are not pushed away from school by the discriminatory acts against
