Motorcycle Helmets?

It may seem obvious to most, but some people out there still don't understand, or even

care to wear helmets when riding motorcycles. Idiots who believe that helmets don't protect you

in a motorcycle wreck, are most likely the ones who are injured the most, have concussions, or

even die when they crash their motorcycles. It is very unsafe, uncool, and careless to not wear a

helmet when driving, or riding a motorcycle.

Wearing a helmet is the safe thing to do. In fact, you have a 40 percent higher chance of

a fatal crash, than if you wore a helmet. The author of the article, Should motorcyclists be

required to wear a helmet, says that, “Hundreds of deaths and head injuries every year could

have been prevented if motorcyclists wore their helmet. “Riders without helmets are 40% more

“ (John S. Moffa). That is pure proof that motorcyclists should be required

to wear helmets.

Although, wearing just any helmet isn't safe either. Some people think they're cool, and

wear little half helmets with a spike at the top. Those are even worse than wearing no helmet at

all. People should also be required to wear a full face helmet when riding motorcycles.

very unsafe and careless to not wear a helmet when riding motorcycles. Now just remember,

next time you're about to ride your motorcycle without any proper gear, think about this essay

first, and wear a

Every other state it is specifically stated that it is against the law. Lane splitting is safer and a more efficient way to travel when riding a motorcycle. Filtering is safer for motorcyclists than riding behind and infront of cars in traffic. Being in front of potentially distracted drivers in traffic is one of the most dangerous spots for a motorcycle rider to be, but riders have no choice, if traffic is slow we are gridlocked just like the cars. People might think this is fair, however on a motorcycle riders do not have a big steel cage to protect them.…

When you wear the right equipment it is critical to know how to use it properly. The proper equipment is a mouthguard which is a shield made of plastic used to protect teeth and gums and can help prevent concussions by absorbing shock (“How do helmets work”1). The other piece of equipment that can prevent concussions is a helmet which is a protective hat that when a player gets hit their head mushes up against a layer of foam reducing the pain. The helmet must have a perfect fit or it will either not reduce pain if it is too tight, if it is too big it will move around when the player is running. The last piece of equipment that is critical for concussion prevention is called a chinstrap which is a strap going from one side of the helmet to the that can prevent concussions, when a player gets hit his neck will not jolt back as bad as without a chin strap on.(“Concussion chin strap…

However, the case now is that “[t]oo many of the helmets on the market . . . are filled with a single substance that isn’t much better than styrofoam” (Roberts 4). By comparison, the VICIS helmet “has multiple layers of different materials-the inside looked like a rock formation” (Roberts 4). The VICIS helmet is unlike any other helmet on the market, and is built to do its job of protecting better than its competitors “by offering four layers of protection” (Garcia). Each layer of protection works differently but in harmony to protect the head.…

For example, if a car rear-ends the driver in front, and the driver and the shotgun passenger are wearing appropriate restraints but the backseat passengers are not, the lack of restraint can cause the front-seat passengers to hit the dashboard or the headrest as the back passengers lurch forward rather than back against the seat because they are not wearing the seat belt. This can also apply if a car gets T-boned: the possibly unbuckled passengers on the side could bang into the doors quite forcibly or into the “Malcolm in the Middle,” therefore causing even more injuries. This also can apply to big rig drivers. An Oklahoma law now in place requires that drivers of big rigs must be belted, in addition to the mandatory primary enforcement. As one of the deputy directors of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated, “…[U]sing a seat belt is the single most effective intervention to prevent injury or death in a motor vehicle crash,” and later stated that “one in three truck driver fatalities occurred because they were not wearing seat belts, which could have prevented almost forty percent of the traffic deaths” (Cosgrove).…
