Standing at about 67 inches tall, roughly 140 pounds, wearing only the most threatening pair of “Levi’s,” I have seen, he strolled over to me scowling, his eyebrows furrowed, and asked, “Do you know Joel, from Hell’s Angels?” I scanned him, looked the man straight in the eyes and said, “No,” while slowly turned to the girl next to me hoping she'd have an answer. “Laurie, this guy, uh-” I was cut off by the man with a forceful, “ask her the question,” he paused, looking back and forth between us, “Come on, ask her.” Vexed, I mumbled to Laurie as my mind raced to muster up something to say, “Do you, uh, know

The Killer Angels provided me with many interesting facts about the civil war. It really makes you think deeper into how bad their wounds were and especially how to cure them. Those men went into the battlefield, not knowing if they were going to walk out alive or not. One of the reasons why is because the medical field wasn't as advanced as it is now. Some doctors didn’t even know what they were doing, so you were lucky if you were in the hands of someone who did know.…

The book The Killer Angels by Micheal Shaara is about the battle of Gettysburg and attempts to convey the historical event by presenting it in a fashion that feels fictional, but is based on documents and letters that were set around that time. The book covers the event through the eyes of different confederate and union officers, and is told in such a way that you feel sympathetic to the characters because you can see their panic, and the decision making process that each officer uses. This book is separated into four sections these are; the day before, the two days of, and the day after. Each section has chapters that are written from the view of seven different characters, each character has a different importance. These characters are: The Spy, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, John Buford, James Longstreet, Robert E. Lee, Freemantle, and Lewis Armistead.…

Published in 1993, “Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member,” is a memoir written by Sanyika Shakur. Set in East Los Angeles during the late 70s, 80’s and early 90s, Shakur’s book illustrates the overwhelming amount of violence that occurs due to conflicts between rivalry gangs. As mentioned in the book, the majority of the conflict is not between the Crips and the Bloods but instead between Crips and other Crips. The book offers a unique difference from most other books about gang life because the author, also known as “Monster Kody” throughout most of the text, is a notorious member of the “Eight Trays Gangster Crips” and manages to work his way through the ranks to Original Gangster. Just graduating the sixth grade, Kody has…

In this paper, I will examine Brenda Medina’s story known as Hell and How I Got Here through a criminological angle. I shall summarize Medina’s story, present a simplistic format of the theories I believe were in play in her story, and then connect those theories with her story. Additionally, I want to note that I will only disclose the theories that I consider to have been the most prominent in Medina’s story, since, there is a large number of theories that can rationalize what happened; but perhaps not as apparent. Brenda Medina’s story prior to the arrest started when she was around six years old living with her parents and many siblings in a hostile family setting, she would deal with her brother’s pranks and her mom’s vile actions to…
