Hatred is a powerful emotion. It governs actions and puts groups of individuals against one another. Sometimes this hate is stemmed from a particular event, whereas in other cases, it is sometimes stemmed from nothing at all. Jews have encountered hatred for centuries. According to Heller, antisemitism is defined as an “ideology that envisions Jews as the culprits behind everything that is wrong with modernity.” While this definition appears to state that antisemitism discusses the issues of Jews concerning modernity, it is important to note that the term antisemitism was primarily popularized in the 1880s.
