Born in 1880, Hellen Keller was healthy little girl. At the age of 19 months she became ill. At the time they did not know what was wrong with the child, but now it is to be believed that 19 month old Hellen was sick with scarlet fever (history.com). Hellen was a very smart young lady and once she skilled in communicating with the world she attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was the first deaf and blind student to graduate from this school.
Hellen went on to be and accomplished author, writing books such as; Light in My Darkness, Optimism, And The Story of My Life (bing.com). she would also lecture to deaf and blind communities about her life and her hardships and how she overcame them. When she gave said speeches she would use an interpreter because Hellen did not verbally speak.
On September 14, 1964, Helen Keller was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Lyndon B. Johnson. His reasoning being that Hellen overcame her own diversity just to dedicate her life to others.
Hellen was a very beloved women by not only her family and friends but by the people of her communities. She was a truly inspiring women we lived through so much and such a young age that then went on to conquer the things she was thought to never be able to do. She lived and very fulfilling life and help raise awareness for the deaf and
