#1.) A creation myth describes the earliest beginnings of the present world that emerged. We learned that they are the most common myth and found throughout history and human culture. There are many different categories and types of creation myths but the three different sources of creation myths that I chose to discuss are; Cheonjiwang Bonpuri which is a Korean creation myth, Heliopolis which is a world parent creation myth, and Ainu which is an earth diver creation myth. These three examples of creation myths all clearly compare from the aspect that they are all considered creation myths and are considered the basic types of creation. Mainly each of these myths share the common ground that they start with the creation of the world. They differ because each tells a different narrative of …show more content…
The Heliopolis was a creation attributed to Atum, who was a self-engendered god and the source of all the elements and forces in the world to spread on a greater message to his people. Thirdly, the Ainu is a creation from the people of Japan, this creation was a small bird that was sent down to create a land with water for a greater world. As explaining each of these creation myths it is clear that each one shares a story but a different narrative. One states the battle for power, the other to spread a greater message to his people, and the third to create land and water for another world. These three myths stood out to me from the other creation myths we commonly learn about from Egypt and Mesopotamia. Creation myths are interesting because its referring to a group of stories that are formed with no judgement, some can believe they are true while others don’t believe in them. These myths describe creation in different cultures, and based on their way of life and evolution. Aside from their differences, they all have a valid story to

For example, one myth told by the Mayans in their sacred book, the Popol Vuh, tells about the creation of mankind through their God’s many attempts at creating the human that best fit their needs. The story tells how mankind was first made from mud, but this didn’t work because man could hardly see, hear or walk and were soon washed away. The Mayan gods then made other beings out of wood and these beings were successful for operating but they lacked blood and souls, so they were destroyed. Finally, after much discussion and deliberation, the gods decided to take advantage of the ingredients they had and they added maize to the mixture and made the third generation of humans out of white and yellow ears of maize. The Mayans believed that they descended from this third generation of men and that their wives were created shortly…

You have an interesting theory, Joyce. It was hard for me to determine why most of these myths have the same message. Something that I have noticed from most of them is that their stories are somewhat similar, the creation myths mostly. At least, they all agree that the world was in darkness at the beginning and the sequence of events that happened as well. For most of these stories, the first thing that was created was the light (even in the Bible).…

The Hindu creation story is more about the Gods creating the universe by sacrificing Purusha an ancient being that holds within him the cosmos, while Hawaiian creation folklore tells more of an event which created the universe, not really a person. These myths are supposed to explain that which is unknown as in the ancient world one did not have much time to think about the creation of the universe when the whole tribe is starving. These myths serve a different purpose as well, as we can see through history the Gods or God are used to justify actions taken by the followers. For example, the infamous Ku Klux Klan or KKK believed that their work was representative of that of God himself. Moreover, groups such as Hamas and the infamous ISIL and ISIS in the middle east justify their atrocities using divine destiny to convince other of their cause.…

Normally, as someone who is highly invested in the idea of science and creation, there is a lack of understanding when it comes to thinking about the different myths of creation. For me, creation all started when a group of molecules happened to join together and eventually evolved into the many organisms that are seen every day. It never occurred to me that there is such a difference between different creation myths. During the first couple of weeks in the semester it became clear that creation is rooted in many cultures in diverse ways.…

The Popol Vuh opens by telling how the multiple Mayan gods created the Earth, everything it is composed of, and how they later create beings capable of worship. In Genesis, one God is responsible for the creation of everything, the most important being mankind. The Popol Vuh and Genesis are so similar that the Popol Vuh is sometimes thought of as a Mayan take on the Bible. The most paramount similarities are explaining the origin of humanity, illustrating the consequences for not following the rules set by the gods or of God, and the creation of everything on Earth.…

For the Roman creation story there is a lot of importance of this great flood that kills everyone except for Deucalion and Pyrrha. Also in the Roman myth men and woman were created at the same time, unlike in the Greek myth when Pandora was created as a punishment for mankind. For the Greek myth it focused more on great battle between Zeus vs. Cronos and Zeus vs. the Titans. This could show the difference in the ideals of each society that one focus around a great natural disaster and the other was focused around a war of some kind. in comparing the myths the idea that the stories follow the same guidelines of chaos, into Gaia, into the gods, and than the population of earth is similar in both…
