This was an appropriate way to research this topic, as there is already a broad awareness of helicopter parenting, therefore, they produced the theory first and then the observation was made. The problem in this study was the role of over-parenting and how this affects college students, especially those who are on the brink of graduating and entering the workplace or the students who are already in the workplace. The theory the researchers had was that over-parenting would be associated with negative outcomes for the students, while parental involvement would be associated positive outcomes. The biggest issue that I found with this research, was the fact that it was cross-sectional, which comes with numerous limitations. First of all, the study being cross-sectional ran the risk of selection error, even though the researchers chose the right participants, the timing could have somewhat affected their answers, as one could imagine, if a participant had a fight with a parent before completing the online survey, their answers could be inaccurate to the real parenting style that participant has been exposed to. Second risk of a cross-sectional study is the difficulty in establishing causality, as the researchers themselves expressed this numerous times throughout the article. A good example they provided was the students’ living situation in relation to over-parenting, as they explained that parents who engage in over-parenting may pressure their children to live in their parental home, however children who are more dependent are more likely to choose to live in the parental home. The last risk that may be present in a cross-sectional study is the possibility of contamination, participants may have lied in the survey for one reason or another. As for the evaluation of the effectiveness of
