In 1906 Helena opened her first beauty salon in Australia, where she sold pots of cream made out a combination of oils, water, and extract from trees. Helena came to the United States and opened her salon in New York City. After making a name for herself in America she started selling her products in department stores and opened other salons in San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago. The opening of these salons made her business bloom and Helena Rubinstein was a brand recognized by women worldwide. She had officially build her cosmetic empire and would continue to do so.
During this time makeup became accepted and highly demanded. Makeup was no longer shameful and it was now popularized by Hollywood movies. Helena knew what it took to build a brand image, she understood that in order to sell her products she would have to create a story that most women would gravitate to and want to be part of, she mastered the art of selling hopes and dreams.
