When you think of a teacher, you may automatically think of a school. A teacher who teaches you math equations and proper grammar in a classroom. Those teachers are important and vital in our lives. However, there are many different types of teachers, and not all of them are hired to teach you. In life, to succeed we will need many teachers to help us become the person we are meant to be. Helen Keller once said that "alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." We cannot go through life alone, we need people there to teach us, and to guide us. A popular African proverb say that "it takes a village to raise a child." Your village will be filled with the many people who will teach you, starting with the day you are born.
When you enter this world, a crying and screaming baby, innocent, adorable, and unknowing to what lays ahead of you, your parents will be the first people who will hold you, kiss you, and the first people who will love you. To those of you who have teachers change your life, I hope you know how lucky you are. Helen Keller, who I mentioned briefly before had a marvelous teacher who changed her life. Anne Sullivan. Anne taught her to read braille and communicate with other. She became her lifelong teacher and friend. I'm sure Helen never felt more lost or more blind than when her teacher passed. Imagine of what Helen Keller would have been without her teacher. We may not even have known who Helen Keller was. Now, I want you to think about the teachers in your life. Without the people in your village. Would you know the things you know now? Would you have the life you have? What kind of person would you be? I know I wouldn't be much.
