Heidi's Brief Analysis

Heidi’s conflict to find herself is resolved when she visits Liberty and finds out the truth about her father and grandmother. She discovers how she ended up in Reno and why her mother always says “soof”. Sadly, Mama’s mental disorder did not disappear and will never disappear. Heidi comes back from Liberty changed, she has discovered part of herself and discovered the world. She joined the Reno Junior High but wistfully lost her lucky streak. Bernadette did not change from the beginning of the book to the end. Mama died while Heidi was in Liberty. She had been suffering headaches for a long time and they got worse the week Heidi went away. The story ends with Heidi leading a slightly more normal life.
