Hedy Lamarr, or Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, was born November 9, 1914 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. She was an Austrian and American film actress during the “Golden Age”, a co-inventor for spread spectrum communications, and even helped create cell phones and what we now today as wi-fi. Hedy was born to parents Emil and Gertrud Kiesler and experienced a great childhood. She grew up to be five feet seven inches with dark brown hair and green eyes. In her lifetime she stared in over 35 films and received many awards including the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EEF) and became the first woman in history to receive the BULBIE Gnass Spirit of Achievement Award. She is still known today as one of the most interesting and intelligent women in the motion pictures industry. Early Life
Hedy Lamarr was born into a well off, Jewish family. Her parents wanted to raise her as Christian. As a young child, Hedy was beautiful. Her mother called her “Snow White” because of her black hair, porcelain white skin, and her green eyes. Hedy described herself as a stubborn, willful child who always learned from her mistakes when she was a child. She attended schools in Vienna until she became fascinated by the art of films and dropped out of school to pursue her dream of acting. She was found dead on January 19, 2000 at the age of eighty six. She died from heart failure, chronic valvular heart disease, and arteriosclerotic heart disease. Her son Anthony Loder followed his mother’s wishes and took her ashes back to Austria where he spread them in the Vienna
