Many Chilean women retain gender roles from the past, this is one of the main reasons there is gender equality issues. With such a great income gap it aids the low employment rate in Chile. For jobs requiring a university degree, the gap in pay increases to forty percent (Wikipedia). Income gap for females and males in jobs that do not require a degree is twenty percent (RMWC). This enormous gap shows us that employers favor males over females. Employers must also believe the females to be not as great an asset to their company as males with this income gap.
