Hector Monologue

Water trickles down the abandoned pebble path, isolated from the real world. Flowers bloom on the banks and grass sways in the bitter breeze. Demeter goddess of all living things sits on a rock. The rock, such a boring inanimate object brought to life by the moss and the roaming creatures that sprawl upon it. Only Demeter is able to bring such life, such brightness and joy to a dormant object. The beauty she had created in the world, everything she had hoped of had all been true. Her newborn, on the other hand, was described by her as hideous, a monster, a creature who should hide himself from all of humanity, different, ugly, disgusting. His name was Hector.
Hector was half tree half human. Bark like scales, root shaped limbs, hair replaced by leaves, everything a normal person would find abnormal, everything different from what people were used to, he was a monster. At birth, Hector had been thrown out by his mother

He had truly thought of a plan so painstakingly impossible, yet the only way he could ever find true acceptance, he had to make a change, make the world a better place just like the stars were used to navigate had had to give himself up in order to prove his worthiness of being called son of Demeter. As he sat there dreaming of the possibilities, Hector heard a soft rustle in the grass behind him. He jetted his head to the side and stared at the ominous sounds. To his disbelief a pygmy unizebra1 emerged from the knee high stalks of grass. The small stripped animal trotted over to the ledge where Hector had been sitting. I was pleased to see the latest copy of the Serpent, and to read about three of my elderly brothers. Both Randy Butterfield and Jack Lorenz were great buddies of mine back then, and it was fitting that Randy also spoke about Jim Fisher in his flashback. I was over ecstatic when Fernando, (also known as Fernie) my best guy friend asked me to go on a walking adventure with him in our hometown of Kelseyville, California. We started off the day by walking in the forest alongside of Kelsey Creek. This forest has a really big meaning to Fernie and I, because we both love nature in every aspect and these walking adventures are not uncommon to us. Starting on the path we both got lost in our own thoughts, I got distracted by looking above me at the the canopy the tree branches created. My eyes followed the patterns the sunlight was creating as it broke through the leaves and cascaded onto the uneven forest floor.…
