Poetry has a very complex and intellectual way of depicting life and the events that occur. They can describe love, hate, lust, anger, and sadness. They capture our inner feelings and our deepest of emotions. In more cases than others they have similar trends to each other. Poetry being that it is an art form, fall under the stereotype of art imitating reality and reality imitating art.…
The art of poetry is a vast discipline in which the creations of the poets take on a multitude of different forms. Not only are there a large number of poetic structures that an author can choose from, there are also many parts within those structures that can be modified to lead to an even more diverse array of final products. The author has a great many choice when it comes to choosing the structure of their poem, they can vary the number of lines per stanza, the length of each line, and the number of syllables per line. Other variations the poet can make include content changes such as choosing to use rhyming words, repeated sounds like alliteration, and figurative devices such as personification. Even in poetry forms with strict guidelines,…
I have been writing some assignments in which I had to include poetry, logos, pathos, ethos and many more during this school year. It has taught me how to use each one of them in different ways. During this school year I read a poem which is written by Emily Dickinson and it taught me how poetry is written and it also carries a meaning or an hidden message, also an expression or thought that the person feels. For example, in one of her poems “hope” she uses an example of a bird or a angel to express her thought or feelings and how it can destroy you in a quick instant, but it can also help without expecting anything from you.…
A novel dependably has a thought that can be summed up in a couple words, a situation which a couple lines can express. A poem dependably alludes to things or thoughts. But then the capacity of the unadulterated novel or immaculate verse is not just to let us know these certainties. On the off chance that it were, the poem could be precisely transposed into composition and the novel would lose nothing in rundown. Thoughts and actualities are only the crude materials of craftsmanship: the specialty of the novel lies in the decision of what one says and what one does not say, in the decision of points of view, in the differing rhythm of the story; the quintessence of the specialty of verse is not the instructional…
How bad do you want it? A cry for justice in an unjust world. Psalm 35 Debra Sanders Clark Have you ever been wrongly accused of something? Better yet have you ever made mistakes? We all have!…
A message of hope, liberation, and inspiration is what comes to mind when reading 121st division of Psalms. This particular Psalm has been a source of inspiration when inspiring worshipers to worship God. It has personal inspired me to look past my hurts, pains, sorrows and situations to toward the source of my hope, God. This particular passage of Psalms reminds me that, the true and living, God never stop caring for or watching over his children. This Psalm, much like the 23rd division of Psalms written by David, the advantages of having a personal relationship with the Lord.…
In class we read three books of poems that couldn 't be more different. They each have different styles of poetry and I got different imagery from each one. The first one by Donald Hall I thought was the easiest to read. It was like a book of short stories about his wife who eventually dies. Reading the poems in the book you can feel his emotions through his words and the imagery was like I was there suffering with him.…
Every Psalm that I have read thus far has shown me more and more about God’s grace and how we must give him praise every single day. Not just because of the sole fact that he is our Creator but, because every day each and every one of us go through so many things and he is always there for us no matter what. He is the only one who chooses between giving us life and death, and he is the only one who continuously shows us grace above all else. In Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need” (New Living Translation).…
Poetry is an art, but instead of being on a canvas it’s on paper. A poem could be interpreted in many different ways. It all depends on the perspective. For example, a poem about a father doing everything in his power to give his children the best life could be view in a couple of ways. Some people view it as the children are taking advantage of the father, others view it as the children are still young and need him, or it’s the father’s duties to take care of the family (viewed as masculine).…
Poetry is a way for people to express their inner most thoughts and feelings. When I read poems, I feel as if I can feel exactly what the author is feeling. Edward Hirsch believes “a reader of poetry is a kind of pilgrim setting out, setting forth” as explained in his article, “To the Reader Setting Out”. Hirsch compared a reader to a pilgrim in his article. In his article, he stated, “Reading poetry is an adventure in renewal, a creative act, a perpetual beginning, a rebirth of wonder.”…
It triggers the reader to feel an intense sensation, ranging from joy to sorrow, and anger to love. Poetry also contains visuals, allowing our imaginations to be stirred by the poem’s layout or visual appearance. Poetry is created from deep within the soul. It feeds off of your emotions and compresses out every bit of originality from your subtle mind. Poetry cannot be summed up or…
Poetry give readers the opportunity to enter the mind of great writers, allowing their emotions to be stirred, imaginations to dream and reality of life to be explored. Langston Hughes’ ‘Song for a Dark Girl,’ Emily Dickinson’s ‘The Soul selects her own Society,’ and Robert Frost’s ‘The Road Not Taken’ grant these opportunities to those who read. The Book of the Psalms in the Old Testament of the Bible, are filled with many poems and written songs granting the reader the same opportunities to experience deep emotion, use their imagination and face the reality of life. Psalm 23, written by King David, takes its reader to a field where a shepherd watches lovingly over his sheep. Through careful analysis by examining the attributes of a shepherd, literary devices, such as symbolism and metaphors, and exploring the focus of the poem, one will gain a richer and deeper appreciation for the love and care, expressed in song, God has for His children.…
Poetry is a very beautiful and unique form of literature, but it often is given a bad reputation. The main reason being is people overanalyze it, instead of taking in the beauty of it. Billy Collins’s poem “Introduction of Poetry” explains how people overanalyze and take away from the beauty of a poem. The speaker suggests ways of reading poetry that allow the reader to understand the poem, but not take away from the beauty of it. Billy Collins quotes “I ask them to take a poem / and hold it up to the light / like a color slide” (lines 1-3) meaning take the poem that is being read and analyze it, but do not analyze it to the point you loose sight of the beauty or “colors”.…
Literature Paper Poetry can be very complex and even though it can vary and use different techniques to get the point across it may come to the same conclusion and meaning, and can also be interpreted differently. Poetry is meant to be understood in the reader's own way. Why I Hate Raisins, Hand-Me-Down Halloween, and My Brother at 3AM are about the struggles of living in the reservation, but use different style, syntax and tone. Why I Hate Raisins is a poem about the struggles of not having enough food or not being able to afford food other than what they received. It is written in subtly and sounds simple, so the true meaning behind the poem is not really understood until the end, and has a deeper meaning.…
Another example can be the phrase “He is meek & he is mild, He became a little child: I a child & thou a lamb, We are called by his name.” This phrase shows a relation between Jesus and man by stating that “We are called by his name.” No matter what meaning the reader takes from this poem, the true meaning of the poem stays the same and that is God is the creator of all living things. “The Lamb” uses many literary elements to make this a masterpiece. One literary element that the poem uses is a rhyme scheme.…
