Heavenly Angels Mission Statement

Improved Essays
It is difficult to think of Christmas in July (especially when it is 105 degrees outside) but Heavenly Angels does. Heavenly Angels works hard to gather supplies, resources and funding anticipating the Christmas season. The local non-profit also conducts various fundraisers throughout the year. The programs mission statement is “ To enhance the social, financial and emotional well being of senior citizens”.
How the program began
Heavenly Angels was founded in 2012 by Marrise McKnight. It was developed following a difficult situation where Marrise and her siblings were faced with the choice of placing their mother, Adell Jerdean Freeman, in a senior center. Marrise’s mother expressed great fear of being placed in a center. She was afraid of

Last year, during Christmas time, Heavenly Angels blessed 70 senior citizens with gifts. Volunteers decorate participating senior centers and provide a memorable Christmas party. The gifts given are for seniors to keep and open on Christmas day. It is important to the volunteers that seniors feel remembered and honored.
Volunteers
Heavenly Angels functions with no paid staff and has 23 valued volunteers that conduct events throughout the year. Volunteers work in conjunction with the annual Red Bud Walk and Spencer Unity Day. Marrise McKnight has received special recognition for exceptional community service from Southwest Airlines (2017).
In the future
Thus far, financial needs have been met through private gifts and from Marrise McKnight’s personal funds. In the past, Heavenly Angels has provided Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts and corresponding celebrations. Due to budget cuts, the program has limited its celebrations and gift giving in 2017. Gifts will be distributed during Christmas until additional funds are raised for other holidays. Marrise and her team of dedicated volunteers hope that funds will grow to meet the needs of local seniors.
Heavenly Angels is hoping to expand its services. The program hopes to offer:
Vouchers for medications and food;
Co-payment assistance for medical expenses including

    Last year the Crestview FCCLA chapter envisioned a new project. It was a project that seemed appropriate for an organization called Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America; however, I wasn’t thrilled. Mrs. Sawmiller, the FCCLA advisor, devised a plan that acted as a fundraiser, as well as a service opportunity, called Polar Express Night, a one-night babysitting service inspired by the movie, The Polar Express. It was to be a magical evening full of crafts, snacks, pajamas, and Christmas spirit; which I was excited for. My excitement soon subsided; however, upon realizing I was about to spend my Saturday night dealing with sticky, snotty, crying six-year-olds.…

    As I made my way into Vista Adult Day Care in Maywood California, it was a narrow space for the large amount of people that were inside. As I waited for the interview with the director of this program, Eugenio Venegas, I observed how joyous people looked. On this day, the people in this program are allowed to bring anything they wish to sell among themselves, it ranged from clothes, blankets and objects. Those who wouldn’t bring anything to sell could either shop if they wish to do so, or engage in other activities such as eating, playing card games and meet up with the nurse to take their blood pressure.…
