A shift occurred between the Age of Imperialism, an era characterized by countries attaining power through diplomatic or military force, and the period of Decolonization, a reversal on colonization. In the Age of Imperialism the nations focused on expanding and growing themselves, as a result, people supported the empires, for the economy required it due to the Industrial Revolution. Following World War II was the period of Decolonization, which opposed the concept of empires, for during this time colonies were allowed to become self-governing or independent.
