One important life lesson that my grandfather used to tell my mother when she was a little girl about you should not study in order to receive a good grade, but you should study for the knowledge. Aside from telling stories in families, a majority of families celebrate certain traditions that they value. One tradition that I celebrate is Norooz, which is the Persian New Year or the marking of Spring. This holiday represents the power of good triumphing over evil. Another tradition that is celebrated in my family is Holi. This holiday is similar to Norooz. Holi also known as the festival of spring or festival of colors. Similar to Norooz, Holi also celebrates good winning over evil. At home, my family usually speak English, Farsi, and Hindi. Since the only language I know is English, my parents only talk to me in English, but whenever my parents talk to my older family members, they usually speak in Farsi or Hindi. Not knowing Farsi or Hindi, does not affect me in anyway. Hearing these languages being spoken makes me want to learn more about my culture which can help me contribute to my personal
