Demo 101 Class Reflection

Hearing about the Demo 101 class I was very unsure about what to expect. My first thought was that it was for someone who might not have known any ASL (American Sign Language). Due to this thought, I became hesitant to the idea of actually going to this event. After explaining the whole week to one of my close friends she asked if I would go with her. Of course, I did and I could not be happier with the results. I was able to take away a few lessons for the course. I had an experience with getting to the class, I was able to learn many signs from said class, and I got the opportunity to talk with the instructor. Combining all three of these experiences I feel as though I gained a deeper love for signing.

My experience with trying to find the area the demo class would take place was pretty entertaining. From the start I had no idea where I was going. When I walked into the building I was expecting to be looking for an auditorium. This doesn’t sound like much of a problem until you become familiar with the building I was in. The only reason I say this is because the Health

Through all of the events and lessons I have been to I was able to really see just how true this is. ASL Rocks was no different, there were an enormous amount of support through out the crowd. Everyone showed encouragement by paying attention to the performers and showing just how much they liked it at the end. There was not even one point though out the night that someone was disrespectful. This helped me realize how one thing can bring so many different people together. We were all at different points of learning ASL, but that did not stop anyone from having fun. Through interpreting and slowing down, everyone was able to fallow along with the show. If someone was confused or lost the people around them were more than willing to help them. Seeing the room of strangers evolve into a small community for the night was beyond

To earn an associates degree from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) one must take and pass certain classes in order to transfer to a four year institute. One of these many classes is ACA 122-College Transfer Success. It is a one credit course designed to help students who are new to the world of community college and transferring to succeed in the future. For me personally I was not so lucky. This is my last semester at GTCC so this class has been a bit of an annoyance rather than helpful, because a large section of the class is geared towards planning out one’s course schedule for their remanning semesters at GTCC.…

It’s hard to tell where to start when it comes to my experience with SEI. As I reflect on this class and my own career there has been real dichotomy of sorts. In the first half of my career I spent in a very culturally diverse community of Stoughton which had a very high ELL population with little no built in supports for teachers. In the second half of my career in East Bridgewater, there is a very low level of ELL’s with much more support. The biggest take away that I have from this course and my time in the classroom, is there are a number of tools available to teach children with a variety of strengths and weaknesses.…

The second ASL deaf event that I attended was the Grind Coffee House deaf event. This was different then the previous one that I attended, which was the Huntington Beach event. On my way, to this event I was nervous because my signing skills are still at a novice level. I was prepping myself in case I needed help remembering signs. Thankfully I was going with a group from class and we would be able to help each other if needed.…

There were some adults signing to each other and some that were talking. It was like a circus or carnival to me. For me the hard part was viewing the event because I am not a very tall person and in a majority of tall people trying to see what was going on was very hard. Then I ended up watching through some peoples cell phones that were recording the event. It seemed very interesting seeing young kids who were in first or second…

The lessons the workshop taught the children that went through it was invaluable. We hope that we as adults show our children learn from us the mistakes of the past and treat people equally. A lot of times unfortunately people have stigmata’s either put on them by society because of how they look or they put them on themselves and people treat them differently. The lessons that this workshop teaches are lessons that everyone should have. You can spend our entire life trying to instill the values in your children that this class does in two days, and I want my children to be kind to people as we all do; I do not want them to ALIENATE someone because they are not the same as them, different ETHNITICIY or part of a MINORITY GROUP.…

My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. In reading, I would just read instead of looking up the difficult word or using context clues to figure out what the word means. Now during my reading I annotate and look up unknown vocabulary words. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…

The concepts delivered throughout the management problem-solving course have provided me with valuable simulated real-life experiences which can be applied in my everyday work life as a HR Administrator with aspirations of progressing my career. The course delivery was such that as a student, I was able to use my existing knowledge and skills, in addition to that of my peers, to analyse and explore complex organisational problems. This course has challenged the way I think and deepened my understanding of the problem-solving process, which has enabled me to perceive issues from new perspectives, I once would not have considered. Additionally, it has also allowed me to make explicit and authentic connections between the course content and my…

I loved that I was able to take what I had learned in class and be able to apply it in lab and have hands on experiences with the subject we were learning about. I am able to understand topics more thoroughly and learn better if I am able to do it and see it myself.…
