Health People 2020 The purpose of this paper is to identify the leading health indicator for Healthy People 2020, for the community of the Garden City. Some data in regards Garden City were collected during the windshield survey conducted prior writing this paper. Besides the data collected from the direct observation of the community, this paper used statistical information to support the selection of the indicator. Additional data from representative websites such as the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, Healthy People 2020, United States Census Bureau, the Southeastern Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOC), and official website of Garden city Michigan are used to support the obesity as a leading health indicator for the Garden city. An actual concern of diabetes among the individuals who live in the Garden City area related to low physical activity as evidence by, high unemployment rates, BMI, and inadequate income. Garden City is located in Western Wayne County in Michigan, and is only minutes away …show more content…
However, form the data conducted through windshield observation and from other reliable sources, I came to the conclusion that obesity is a leading health indicators for Garden City population. Based on the Michigan Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS), 32.2% of the population of Garden City is estimated to be obese, 33.8 % of the population is overweight, and 34.0 % of this population have a healthy weight (2014). According to the Healthy People 2020, national wide there is little or no detectable changes in regards weight status in the USA. Healthy People 2020 defines obesity as an excessive amount of body fat. Body Mass Index (BMI) estimates the body fat, and adults whose BMI is greater than or equal to 30.0 is considered to be obese.
