While I understand the implications of not getting enough sleep and not following medical professional’s advice, I do not think that I will change, nor do I want too. I thoroughly enjoy pushing my body to it’s limits, even if it can be harmful to my health. It is a part of who I am, being such a stubborn individual. However, after doing this questionnaire I definitely will look into protecting the environment more. One easy way to do this, when I am able to, is by carpooling to Sioux City when I go to guard drill once a month. According to this questionnaire, I have a high level of wellness. It was different in how the results are viewed, however. The Blue Zones Test and the Healthy Lifestyle Questionnaire ask concrete questions about whether or not a certain task is completed such as: “I use seat belts and adhere to the speed limit.” There isn’t room for personal perception, either you adhere to the speed limit and wear a seatbelt or not. This causes the results to be somewhat standardized in the sense that if an individual has a high score or life expectancy, it is expected that that individuals lifestyle is healthy as well (while keeping in mind the special note on The Healthy Lifestyle Questionnaire). The Wellness Self-Perceptions questionnaire, however, is all based on the individual’s perception of themselves, so there is not as much of a standard. For example, when presented with the statement “I am physically fit”, one could view themselves as being physically fit when their body is actually deteriorating. An example of this is CT Fletcher. While he was working out multiple hours a day, he was eating McDonalds every day for a post-workout meal as well. He viewed himself as being fit, yet due to his diet, he had to undergo multiple heart surgeries and is now waiting on a heart transplant. So, was he actually physically fit?
