Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and, probably one of the poorest in the world. As of today, Haiti is still trying to recover from the massive earthquake that destroyed the country in January 2010. The economy influences the health status of a population because good health is vital for human development and happiness. Moreover, the economy influences health because it is an important contribution to a healthier population. Having a healthier population saves money, because people are more productive, less sick and live longer.
