The healthcare system is akin to a living entity. The needs and desires of the system change every day as such society must adapt and find the best methods to satisfy and simultaneously help the healthcare system to continually grow and become better versions of itself. The purpose of the discussion paper written by Thomas et al. (2008) is to do just that; suggest potential models to help the UK practice-based commissioning system identify the best method to improve vertical integration and horizontal integration through a hybrid design of existing healthcare organizations.
