While it is important for doctors to foster a relationship with patients they should still try not to get overly attached. Doctors have many patients and to be fixated on one would only decrease the time spent on others, as well as put the doctor in a place to feel grief if it goes the bad way. In additions patients and their love ones must also keep their emotions in check. Doctors and medical staff can not work if people are crying hysterically or freaking out to the point of being uncooperative. In order for medical staff to work patients and anyone in the room with them must maintain composure.
Both narratives and the use of emotions have a huge impact on the overall system of health and medicine. As we better understand patients and the thought process of those with chronic or serious conditions we can better help them. Already we see change with the requirement of social medicine my medical students in an attempt to teach proper ways of connecting with patients. As we understand more we change and adapt the health care field in order to best service
