The healthcare profession consists of many members with nurses making for the largest amount of staff; the health field can only function properly by the daily interaction of nurses and various personnel. The structure of the healthcare system is highly dependent on nurses, nonetheless the organization would not function without the other members involved. The referral pattern is in relation to the care a specialist is able to provide. For cost factors, some clinics and/or patients will seek the care of an NP; the utilization of NP’s is beneficial as NP’s have the capability of providing care in an effective, quality, and equal care as that of an MD. However, advanced nurses can be scrutinized, the critique is whether an NP can measure in quality and effectiveness as MD’s. Studies have shown that the savings in cost are present, the problem lies in insufficient studies that cannot conclude whether the NP can be recognized as a Primary Care Physician.
