Also known as Medical and Health Services Managers, Healthcare Administrators perform a variety of administrative duties within a health care facility such as a hospital, doctor’s office, nursing home, and group medical practices facility(O-net, n.d). Depending on the area of expertise in the workplace, their titles can vary such as a Nursing Home Administrator, Clinical Manager, Health Information Manager, and Assistant Administrator(Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016).
Duties of a Healthcare Administrator are to plan, direct, and coordinate smoothly and successfully in their work environment. They are in charge of developing departmental goals and objectives; ensure the facility is up to date and compliant with new laws and regulations, and work to improve on quality and efficiency. Another career goal is to become an expert in my chosen field, and increase my productivity. I tend to become stressed over simple things, so reducing stress at work is another goal of mine I would like to achieve. Kaplan University Career Services can help assist me in obtaining my goals because it can help me with my resume and professional profile. There are also job posting and job fairs available which can help me apply for jobs and “fake” interviews to help me prepare for that process. Within Kaplan University’s Career Services center, I can ask any questions I have and they will be answered. In five years, I see myself graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Healthcare Administration, working towards my Master’s. I see myself working at a new job, starting my career working in the health field managing in a health facility.
