The book is divided into the three themes of tips, myths, and tricks mentioned in the title. “Tips” is concerned with common health questions, such as weight-loss, the usefulness of dietary supplements and whether it’s worth trying to cure a common cold. “Myths” works to dispel irrational beliefs and fears about things like health-related conspiracy theories. “Tricks” lays out the structure of a health scam to the reader and potential buyer; the author encourages us to pay attention to wording which might exploit our fears and thereby avoid being taken in by quacks and snake oil salesmen.

The chapters on diet and supplementation were most relevant to me – although I agree that with a balanced diet, expensive supplementation might not be strictly necessary, I know I do need my iron and iodine supplements. The “Myth” chapters discussing big corporations and their involvement in creating health fads or fears to generate sales were enlightening.
