There are many health science occupations available to students through their degree programs at Kaplan University. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelors of Science in Nutrition Science program at Kaplan University. It is my desire to become a Nutritionist and work as an Education Specialist for the Maine Department of Education in Child Nutrition. The following is an overview of the Nutritionist profession, its education requirements, required skills, my personal career goals, and how Kaplan University can help me obtain those goals.
As stated by O*NET Online a Nutritionist can “Plan and conduct food service or nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease. [A Nutritionist] may supervise activities of a department providing quantity food services, counsel individuals, or conduct nutritional research.” (O*NET Online) There is a wide range of jobs available for Nutritionists; they can work for restaurant companies, hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. Nutritionists work with other health care professionals to help meet the dietary needs of individuals. They prepare diet plans; assess menus, counsel individuals on healthy eating habits, and food preparation. (O*NET Online)
