A midfielder for soccer needs to have high Cardio Respiratory Endurance, Muscular Endurance, Agility and Speed, in order to play out a full game and play to the best of their ability. Health related components of fitness are components that improve day-to-day life and reduce injury. Cardio Respiratory Endurance is the bodies’ ability to work continuously for an extended period of time at submaximal level for example marathon running. This would be important in a game of soccer, as the midfield player needs to be able to play out the duration of the game without getting fatigued and without decreasing performance having a high percentage of type 1A muscle fibers would greatly benefit someone who wanted to improve their cardio respiratory endurance. Muscular Endurance is the muscles capacity to work continuously usually with a repetitive movement for example rowing. This is important to a midfielder as it means they are able to perform at a higher intensity for a longer period of time, as they are able to continue playing without their muscles fatiguing over the duration of the game, having a high percentage of type 1A muscle fibers would greatly benefit someone who wanted to improve their muscular endurance. Performance related components of fitness are components that are specific to a skill and help improve the athlete’s ability in that sport and skill.
